Detoxification or Detox

A Statement much used in modern life and commonly features in many conversations, media articles and celebrity interviews. Far from being a lifestyle choice or fashion statement, a continued programme of detoxification is vitally important to maintain the body and its vital organs in the correct balance.

Take a moment to consider how many chemicals and pollutants that your body is being exposed to on a daily basis. These can be from the air, water or your food. Many of these chemicals are man-made and our bodies were not developed to process them. These chemicals can lie in the body for years.

Detoxification is a conscious, personal decision to bring one's body back in balance.

Apart from the immune system, the stimulating effects of sweat therapy many vouch as one of the most effective and painless detoxifying treatments available.. The body only has four ways to excrete toxins; urine, faeces, respiration and perspiration. The average body has approximately 2.6 million sweat glands. During an Aromasteam steam room session the body can sweat out up to 30% of its toxins that have built up. Studies have shown that environmental chemicals and poor diet cause 95% of cancer. Profuse sweating enhances the detoxifying capacity of the skin by opening pores and flushing impurities from the body.

Here are a couple of excerpts from medical articles following research:

"The only detoxification program that has proven successful in removing fat stored toxins from the body is hyperthermia, or heat stress detoxification",

"Heat stress," says Dr. Gard, "can also remove calcium deposits from the blood vessels and break down scar tissue from their walls".

"Other studies demonstrate that hyperthermia can remove chemicals such as DDE (a metabolite of DDT) PCB's (polychlorinated biphenyl), and dioxin from fat cells"
